i have rediscovered the beastie boys within the past year and have long awaited the release of their latest all instrumental album that came out yesterday...
incidentally, it is the first album that i have purchased from a store for myself in at least 3 years.
this commercial with telly sevalas for the players club gold card sung to me as a young lad blossoming in the midwestern plains. it planted a seed in my mind to travel to far away places like reno, tahoe, and the carribean... of which i have yet to go to any.
incidentally, the folks that post these on youtube are absolutely brilliant.
...we're done with grad school! neglected to mention that last month a. and i completed our respective masters programs after 3 long years of dedicating long nights and weekends to classes, papers, projects, and presentations.
it was a fruitful experience. the college was great, overall. instructors were excellent, save a few strays. the faculty was strong and had vision. the campus was navigable, beautiful, and resources ample. the library fantastic, except for the pitted out seats circa 1985. i'd give them a 3.8/4.0.
if you have stumbled on the thought of going back to school, stop stumbling and just do it. it is the best investment that i believe we could have made in ourselves, our development, and our future.
i love condiments. sometimes i call the refrigerator door the wall of condiments. a meal simply is not a meal without a bottle of this and a jar of that on the table as obligatory garnish.
hot sauce, mustard, bbq sauce, ketchup, relish, nayonaise... and several varieties and grades of each. i am particularly fond of mustard, though. it has been a life long staple.
i remember after school treats such as warmed sauerkraut with grainy stone ground mustard drizzled atop the fibrous heap of pickled joy. i can recall a late evening in college doctoring up a saltine cracker with burger fixins and trying to convince my roommate that we didn't need the meat for it was the condiments that we savored.
i just finished a bbq'd tofu sandwich drenched with plain yellow mustard and i lean back now, in condiment heaven.
this has been a ruminating question bouncing in my head as of recent. it has begun to seem that the blogosphere has become saturated with this blog and that blog and no one has any time to truly dedicate to reading through all of them.
it leaves me wondering how we perfect our communication with each other from here. are blogs a web v1.0 passe vehicle for communication?
if we reflect on the influx of interconnectivity within the past decade or so with email, listserv, cell phone, website, blog, videoblog... what has it gotten us? ease and access to more communication, yes, unquestionably. but are the technologies not so pervasive and easily accessible that our messages get buried under literal tons of blah-blah-blah (of which, i am just as guilty as everyone else for generating--prime example, this blog post).
my question really is, now that we have everyone connected to this giant e-social network, should we not focus our efforts on perfecting the means in which we communicate and disseminate our information?
perhaps this is an idyllic view of the world, and there are simply too many intricacies and subtle nuances to life that we cannot sum up in a polished message. perhaps i believe too strongly in a vision similar to bill and ted's excellent adventure, where the world was aligned through the simple messages of two dudes' music. perhaps this '80s reference just dumbed down my argument. regardless, i think that the key to our future evolution is dependent on how we manage and contribute our information via omnipresent innerconnectivity.
incidentally, it is not through calling home from the aisles of a grocery store because you can't make a decision. which brings up yet another question... with this innerconnectedness, have we handicapped our judgement and empowerment to define a situation with steadfast and educated decision making?
