waste not, want not

as americans, we are responsible for producing 4.5 pounds of waste per person each day, according to recent epa study

33% is recovered via composting or recycling
13% is incinerated
55% is sent straight to the landfill

we have come a long way over the past half century and have an opportunity to continue further.
increased recycling and growth of the recycling industry:
  • curb emission of many greenhouse gases
  • curb water pollution
  • saves energy
  • supplies resourced raw materials to industry
  • creates green collar jobs
  • stimulates the development of green technology/industry
  • conserves resources
  • reduces the need for new landfills and trash incinerators
 reduce, reuse, recycle.
